Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert,
Thailand (Chair) Senior Advisor in

Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert is a Senior Advisor in
Health Economics at the Ministry of Public Health,
Thailand. He began his career as a director and a
practitioner in four rural district hospitals. He
has extensive experience both in Thailand and internationally,
and has published more than 100 papers, reports and
books. He has produced radio and television programs
on health issues for 15 years. In 2004-2005 he chaired
a Working Group on Strategic Development for Avian
Influenza Control. He is now an editor of a journal
for community health workers, the President of the
Folk Doctor Foundation, and serving as a board member
of several institutions, as well as representing Thailand
in many international health forums.
Internationally, Dr. Wibulpolprasert chairs the Board
of the Health Metrics Network and the Mekong Basin
Disease Surveillance Network, and the Steering Committee
of Asia Partnership on Avian Influenza Research. He
also serves as a Vice Chair of the Program Coordinating
Board, UNAIDS and a member of interim Board of the
Global Health Workforce Alliance.
Dr. Wibulpolprasert was formerly the Vice Chair of
the Board of the Global Fund and the President of
the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety. Besides
all these works, he has run seven marathons.

Dr. Khaled Shamsul

Dr. Khaled Shamsul Islam is a Senior Assistant Chief
of the Human Resources Development Unit, Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare in Bangladesh. Before
joining this Unit, he was the Deputy Project Director
of the School Health Programme during 1997-2001. Graduated
with a medical degree, he also earned a number of
postgraduate diplomas in health economics, adolescent
health and health system development from universities
in Bangladesh, Thailand, Canada and Sweden. He gained
a Master of Health Economics from the University of
Dhaka in 1999. Dr. Islam has extensive experience
conducting research in human resources for health
and has written and published a number of research
reports and articles.

Dr. Junhua Zhang is the Assistant Director-General
of the Health Human Resources Development Centre,
the Ministry of Health, China. He is in charge of
International Cooperation, health research, master
student program, and information and technology. Dr.
Junhua is also the principal investigator of three
research projects namely: (a) The Situation Analysis
and the Development Trends of Human resources for
Health in China ; (b) Alcohol use status and traffic
fatalities in China; (c) HRH in Rural Area of China:
Challenges and Options for the future.
Dr. Zhang graduated with Bachelor in Medicine from
Tongji Medical University in Wuhan, China and M.Sc
.in Epidemiology from the School of Public Health,
University of Philippines. He also received his Ph.D
degree from The George Institute for International
Health, Faculty of Medicine, the University of Sydney,
Australia. Prior to joining the Health Human Resource
Development Center, Dr. Zhang worked for the Chinese
Academy of Preventive Medicine, Foreign Loan Office
of the China Ministry of Health, and as a senior research
fellow at the George Institute of International Health
at the University of Sydney. |

Prof. K Srinath

Professor K Srinath Reddy is the President of Public
Health Foundation of India and Professor of Cardiology,
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
Prof Reddy is an eminent clinical cardiologist, and
also trained epidemiologist from the McMaster University,
Canada.
He has been involved in several major research studies
and holds several distinguished positions at the national
and international level. He is the chair of the World
Heart Federation's Scientific Council on Epidemiology
and Prevention and has served on many WHO expert panels.
Professor Reddy is the recipient of the Padma Bhushan
award by the President of India recently in 2005 and
has also been honored with many other prestigious
awards by reputed international organization like
WHO and the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health,
UK, for his outstanding contributions towards promotion
of good health and tobacco control.

Dr. Ezekiel Nukuro,

Employed by WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific
(WPRO) since December 2000, Dr. Ezekiel Nukuro currently
serves as WPRO’s Regional Adviser in HRH since
May 2003. His main responsibilities include, among
others: regional HRH programme development, monitoring,
evaluation and reporting; mobilization of resources
to support HRH programmes in the region; technical
support for the enhancement of the quality and standards
of health professional education and training, including
medical education; planning and management of the
WHO Fellowships programme in the region; advocate
for, and facilitate partnerships /networks and coordinated
approach in strengthening HRH capacity of Member States;
and providing technical support in aspects of HRH
to Member States where possible.
After graduating from the Fiji School of Medicine
in 1981, Dr. Nukuro worked at the Solomon Islands
Government’s Ministry of Health and Medical
Services as a physician and later as the Director
of Health services in two remote provinces of the
country. After obtaining his Masters degree in Community
Health in UK in 1987, he served as Chief Medical Officer,
Public Health and was promoted to the post of Undersecretary
Health Improvement in the MOH from 1989 to July 1997.
He then joined UNICEF (Pacific Office) to work on
the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights
of the Child (CRC) and child protection programmes
in the Pacific Island countries. Right before joining
WHO, he served as the adviser on advocacy, information
and communication for the Secretariat of the Pacific
Community’s (SPC) population and reproductive
health programmes. |
