Dr. Khaled Shamsul Islam is a Senior Assistant Chief
of the Human Resources Development Unit, Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare in Government of the
People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Before joining
this Unit, he was the Deputy Project Director of the
National School Health Programme during 1997-2001.
From 1990-96 he worked as a senior Research Officer
in Bangladesh Institute of Research and Promotion
for Essential Reproductive Health & Technologies.
Graduated with a medical degree in 1989, he also earned
a number of postgraduate diplomas in Health Economics,
Adolescent Health and Health System Development from
universities in Bangladesh, Thailand, Canada and Sweden.
He gained a Master of Health Economics from the University
of Dhaka in 1999. He also gains Fellow of College
General Practitioners from Bangladesh College of General
Practitioners and Masters of Public Health from Atish
Diponkor University of Science and Technology. Dr.
Islam has extensive experience conducting research
in human resources for health and has written and
published a number of research reports, books and
articles. He is life member of Bangla Academy and
Asiatic Society of Bangladesh. Now he is engaging
himself for preparing long term national comprehensive
HRH Master Plan (2010-2040) for Bangladesh by 2010.
